THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF ETSY part 2

"People will buy anything, no matter what it costs" fits perfectly with one seller i stumbled upon. I was browsing their shop, which consisted of simply beaded necklaces (nothing too fancy) with those metal oval-shaped pendant pieces made to hold an image inside it like a frame (no idea what they're actually called), and realized they were selling them for almost $200!

And I was even more baffled by the fact that they had made almost 30 sales, with a little over 100 people liking her shop! I don't get it. Ok, yeah the images are cute, and the necklaces are somewhat pretty... but $200??? I don't think so.
She probably spent at the most $50 putting those pieces of crap together.
(ok, maybe im being a little too harsh .... but, to me they look like necklaces made for children... or BY children, either one.)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I found another shop that amused me quite a bit. NOW THESE i would rather pay $200 for, rather than those piece of crap necklaces! (sorry, im still annoyed by that seller's jewelry)

My first reaction to seeing these "dolls" was "Oh my god.. It's HOBO art!"
Then i was trying to figure out what the hell they're made out of... and apparently its a combination of wire, clay, paint, and wood. But it might as well be paper glued to a popsicle stick.
I'm not saying that they're HORRIBLE though.. I'm amused at the thought of how a few of them would look on a shelf in my room. But there are actually a few that she's made that i'd probably actually buy. Her prices are quite reasonable!
There's one by her that i'd buy of Author & Pulitzer Prize winner Eudora Welty, whom i've never read a single book from, but i'd buy her and pretend that she's a drunk. Sorta like Hortense Daigle in "The Bad Seed".

Other ones i find actually worth buying: her Loretta Lynn(with accoustic guitar) , Scarlett O Hara in full mourning clothes, and all three of The Three Stooges! yes, Larry, Moe & Curly. Amazing.

I feel like so much love goes into making her little people. It must be hard work glueing felt and paper to wood and then drawing "uncanny" faces. I say uncanny, but theyre almost unrecognizable.
One thing though, I think she needs to work on her caricatures. I mean, she missed the double chin on Susan Boyle! and she should be able to see that with the real Susan Boyle, you can't even see her eyes..or that she has a mustache.
Also her Paula Deen doll has NO chin.

I like also, how with every doll there's a photo of her making the doll, and she looks so frazzled. It's like she wakes up and just starts cutting fabric.
You can see the table she's working at is full of junk. It's like she spends her whole life at that table because she's got her food plates, and tv remotes. Probably sits there watching tv, finding the next "As Seen On" muse.
"Must. make. Susan Boyle. As seen on the today show"

So, my conclusion on this woman's Etsy shop:

1. The dolls are so bad, i'm not quite sure if i can say that I totally hate them.
2.The dolls are so funny looking that they make me question her sanity.
3. The dolls are done so badly that i'd love to just have a couple on a shelf in my home just to make me chuckle everytime i walk in the room and see them sitting there.
4. I probably can't do any better than she can with only wire, some clay, paint, and wood.

So, I've favourited her shop for future reference, and in case i change my mind about wanting to buy a scraggley faced homemade doll to brighten up my home :)

THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF ETSY

I can waste an entire day looking through Etsy (and I HAVE wasted many of my days off from work doing just that).
Having stumbled on this site a few years back has to be one of the worst discoveries i've ever made. Only because i already have an obsession with vintage junk, and this place is a haven for vintage clothing, jewelry, home decor, old toys(!) and almost everything else imaginable. Which means i'm going to be spending more money than i should!
I've also realized you have to be patient. There are times you'll be browsing through a lot of crap.

And its not only vintage stuff for sale (though that's usually all i tend to search for)... there are a lot of people who sell handmade items. I've bought artwork, refurbished lamps, and handmade clothing.
The one thing I like about the site is a lot of the sellers sell their stuff at reasonable costs.
AND THEN THERE ARE THOSE who sell their stuff at OUTRAGEOUSLY high prices, knowing that SOMEONE out there will eventually buy it. I've realized, on Etsy, people buy anything.. doesn't matter what the price is.
